How It Works

Direct IV push over a period of 3-4 min; IV intermittent infusion over a period of half to one hour after addition of Dextrose 5% or 0.9% NaCI infusi6n fluid.

How to Take It

0.25 to 0.5 g — 8 hourly
Doses vary according to indication. In typhoid fever and Meningitis , 150 mg/Kg/day in adults and 100-150 mg/kg/day in children should be given. Doses greater than 500 mg is given in divided doses.

Safety Alerts

Hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactams

Important Warnings

Renal impairment, acute or chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and cytomegalovirus infection (increased risk of erythematous rashes), glandular fever, maintain adequate hydration with high doses (particularly during parenteral therapy)
Accumulation of sodium can occur with high parenteral IV doses, risk of crystalluria with high doses
Monitor renal, hepatic and haematological function in neonates

Caps Store in a well closed container, Below 40°C. Protect from Moisture. Inj (reconstituted soln) Store at room temperature. Use within 1 hr if kept at room temperature. Oral Susp (reconstituted soln) Store at room temperature or refrigerator. Do not Freeze. Use within 2 weeks if refrigerated and within 1 week if kept at room temperature.
