Codeine (Phosphate) is the derivative of Codeine. It is of Semi Synthetic origin and belongs to Opioid. It belongs to OPIATE agonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Analgesic pharmacological group. The Molecular Weight of Codeine is 299.36. It is weakly acidic drug, 7.29% solution of the drug is isotonic and Its pKa is 8.2.

Acute ulcerative colitis, abdominal distention, conditions where inhibition of peristalsis should be avoided, known ultra-rapid codeine metabolisers, respiratory depression, obstructed airways, acute alcoholism, head injury, raised intra cranial pressure, biliary tract surgery

Cardiac arrhythmias, chronic alcoholism, chronic dehydration, chronic malnutrition, convulsive disorders, gallstones, hepatocellular insufficiency, hypothyroidism, renal or hepatic impairment, BPH, inflammatory or obstructive bowel disease, elderly, labour, sodium restricted diets
