What is Curosurf?

Uses
It is used to treat or prevent lung distress in premature babies.

How It Works

: For intratracheal use only. Before administering, ensure proper placement and patency of the endotracheal tube, the endotracheal tube may be suctioned before administering poractant alfa. Allow the infant to stabilize before proceeding with dosing.

How to Take It

Adult · Intra tracheal
2.5 mL/kg of birth weight — As recommended.
Up to 2 subsequent doses of 1.25 mL/kg birth weight can be administered at 12-hour intervals if needed in infants who continue to require mechanical ventilation and supplemental oxygen.

Safety Alerts

Poractant Alfa is contraindicated in conditions like Acidosis, Anemia, Hypothermia, Hypoglycemia

Important Warnings

Continuous monitoring is required to avoid hy-peroxaemia caused by rapid improvement in arterial oxygen concentration

Side Effects

Pulmonary haemorrhage (rarely)especially in more preterm neonates
