How It Works
Administered by deep IM inj into the upper outer quadrant of the gluteal muscles or by intermittent IV infusion over 30-60 min at a conc. of 2.5-5 mg/ml in D5W or NS, can also be administered by intraperitoneal instillation and irrigation
How to Take It

Adult · IV,IM
500 mg — 8 hourly

Adult · PO
1 g — 6 hourly
For preoperative intestinal antisepsis. Frequency may be increased upto 6 times/day. Duration: For 3-4 days.

Adult · PO
8 to 12 g/day — As recommended.
For Hepatic coma. Shuold be given in divided doses.

Child · Intra Muscular
5 to 10 mg/kg — 8 hourly

Kanamycin (Acid Sulphate) is contraindicated in conditions like Neuromuscular blockade

Myasthenia gravis, Parkinsonism
Control blood levels and total dosage particularly in renal impairment
