How to Take It

Adult · PO
1000 mg/day — As recommended.
Additional dosing increments may be given (1000 mg/day additional every 2 weeks) to a maximum recommended daily dose of 3000 mg.

20 mg — As recommended.
To maximum of 60 mg/kg daily.

You should not use levetiracetam if you are allergic to it

high blood pressure
mental illness or psychosis
or kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis)
Important Warnings
Some people have thoughts about suicide while taking seizure medicine
Tell your doctor right away if you have any sudden changes in mood or behavior, or thoughts about suicide
Seizures may increase if you stop using levetiracetam suddenly
Ask your doctor before stopping the medicine
Side Effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction (hivesdifficult breathingswelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction ( feversore throatburning eyesskin painred or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling). Seek medical treatment if you have a serious drug reaction that can affect many parts of your body. Symptoms may include skin rashfeverswollen glandsmuscle achessevere weaknessunusual bruisingor yellowing of your skin or eyes. Tell your doctor right away if you have new or sudden changes in mood or behaviorincluding new or worse depression or anxietypanic attacks
