Safety Alerts
You should not take this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to morphine or other opioid medicines or if you have: severe asthma or breathing problems
a stomach or bowel obstruction (including paralytic ileus )
or if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days, such as isocarboxazid , linezolid , methylene blue injection, phenelzine , or tranylcypromine
To make sure morphine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( COPD ), sleep apnea , or other breathing disorder
a head injury , brain tumor , high pressure inside the skull, or seizures
Important Warnings
Morphine should be used with caution in patients with central nervous system (CNS) depression, convulsive disorder, ulcerative colitis, fever, recent gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, bradyarrhythmia, supraventricular tachycardia, pulmonary diseases
Patients should exercise caution while driving or performing tasks requiring alertness because it may produce drowsiness
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Morphinewhich give rise to further complications include Dependency. Morphine produces potentially life-threatening effects which include ComaRespiratory depressionAnaphylactic shockCyanosis. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Morphine therapy.
