How It Works

Infuse over 30-60 min. Give penicillins or cephalosporins at least 1 hour apart from tobramycin. Standard diluent dose/100 ml NS; minimum volume, 50 ml NS

How to Take It

3 to 5 mg/ kg — As recommended.
In 3-4 divided doses.

0.3 % w/v — 6 hourly

2 to 2.5 mg/kg — 8 hourly

Safety Alerts

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to tobramycin or similar antibiotics (amikacin, gentamicin, kanamycin, neomycin, paromomycin , streptomycin )
To make sure tobramycin injection is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease
a muscle disorder such as myasthenia gravis
Parkinson's disease
or a metabolic disorder such as high or low levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood

Important Warnings

To avoid excessive dosage in obese patients, use ideal weight for height to calculate dose and monitor serum amikacin concentration closely
Care must be taken with dosage, caution in conditions characterized by muscular weakness (aminoglycosides may impair neuromuscular transmission)
Ensure adequate hydration
if possible, dehydration should be corrected before starting an aminoglycoside, if possible, parenteral treatment should not exceed 7 days, renal impairment, auditory, vestibular or neuromuscular dysfunction, haemoptysis
Monitor auditory and renal function during therapy
