How to Take It

Safety Alerts
You should not take sodium chloride if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it, or if you have high sodium levels in your blood
To make sure you can safely take sodium chloride, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions: high blood pressure
liver disease (especially cirrhosis )
a buildup of fluid around your lungs (also called pleural effusion )
fluid retention (especially swelling in your ankles or feet )
Important Warnings
You should not take sodium chloride if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it, or if you have high sodium levels in your blood
Before you take sodium chloride, tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure , kidney or liver disease , fluid retention (especially around your legs or your lungs), congestive heart failure , preeclampsia of pregnancy if you are on a low-salt diet, or if you are allergic to any foods or drugs
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding
Stop using sodium chloride and call your doctor at once if you have stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, or swelling in your hands or feet
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using sodium chloride
Side Effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hivesdifficult breathingswelling of your facelipstongueor throat. Stop using sodium chloride and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as: nausea and vomitingstomach painor swelling in your handsanklesor feet. Less serious side effects are more likelyand you may have none at all. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
