How to Take It

Adult · IM
15000 to 30000 units/kg/day — 24 hourly
This should be reduced in the presence of renal impairment.The dosage may be divided and given at either 4 or 6 hour intervals.

Adult · IV
15000 to 25000 units/kg/body weight/day — 24 hourly
Infusions may be given every 12 hours, however, the total daily dose must not exceed 25,000 units/kg/day.

Adult · Ophthalmic
5 to 10 ml — 6 hourly
Frequency may be increased upto 6 times/day.

10000 units/g — 12 hourly

Apply Ointment on effacted area.

0.33 mg/kg — 24 hourly

Polymyxin B (Sulphate) is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to the drug
Important Warnings
Before initiating therapy with polymyxin B determine baseline kidney function
Serum concentration must be monitored regularly during treatment
It should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, myasthenia gravis or other condition of neuromuscular disease, in patients known to have hypersensitivity reactions, in pulmonary disease, if sign of respiratory distress or nephrotoxicity occur, the drug should be discontinued
Take appropriate measures in case of secondary infection
