Metformin is the derivative of Metformin (HCl). It is of Synthetic origin and belongs to Biguanide. How to Take It

Adult · PO
500 to 3000 mg — 12 hourly
Frequency may be increased upto 3times/day, if needed. Gradually increase upto 2-3 g/day.

Safety Alerts
History of heart failure, previous or active bladder cancer, severe infection, shock, trauma, uninvestigated haematuria, dialysis, diabetic ketoacidosis, pregnancy and lactation
Important Warnings
Porphyrias, monitor for fluid retention or other signs of cardiac failure (discontinue if deteriorates)
Monitor for risk factors for lactic acidosis
Monitor for weight gain and anaemia
Withdraw 48 hours before elective surgery
Monitor for signs of hepatic dysfunction and check liver enzymes prior to therapy and every 2 months thereafter, elderly, risk of bone fracture and bladder cancer particularly in women and elderly
